Burkina Faso/Development: President Ibrahim TRAORE encourages agricultural entrepreneurship

Concerned about the country’s future and the well-being of its citizens, particularly the youth, President Captain Ibrahim Traoré of Burkina Faso is urging his compatriots to explore initiatives that will foster their development.

He emphasizes the agricultural sector, highlighting its immense potential for job creation. “There are plenty of employment opportunities in agricultural production,” he stated.

President Traoré addressed this topic during a radio exchange with the nation on Saturday, September 5.

He pointed out that the public sector can no longer absorb everyone into its workforce, making the establishment of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) crucial. He urged young people to return to farming as a viable path to prosperity.

In his encouragement, the  current President of Burkina Faso reassured citizens of the government’s unwavering support for the entrepreneurial activities of every Burkinabè who engages in agriculture.

He reminded listeners that significant measures have been implemented as part of the 2023-2025 agricultural, pastoral, and fishery offensive to maximize support for agricultural actors in the upcoming 2024-2025 campaign.

For instance, thousands of hectares have been plowed free of charge, and the government has provided agricultural inputs, improved seeds, and necessary equipment to benefit local producers.

Furthermore, in an effort to secure markets for these agricultural products, authorities advocate for local processing to achieve food self-sufficiency and are also planning the establishment of purchasing centers for farmers’ grains.

According to President Traoré, this initiative will be facilitated by the Agency for the Promotion of Community Entrepreneurship (APEC).

This strategy aims to further motivate the population to engage in agriculture, a field the authorities believe offers reliable opportunities for success.
