Burkina Faso: Boosting the Well-being of the armed Forces through the armed forces health insurance fund

The social and health well-being, as well as peace of mind, of Burkina Faso’s armed forces are pivotal factors in the ongoing fight against terrorism. Ensuring that combatants have the assurance of good health for themselves and their families allows them to perform at their best on the battlefield. Recognizing this, the transitional government of Burkina Faso has taken significant steps to address these concerns, with a particular focus on the Armed Forces Health Insurance Fund (CAMA).

One of these crucial measures was the approval, on October 18, 2023, by the Council of Ministers of a draft decree outlining the rates, deduction methods, and payment contributions for The Armed Forces Health Insurance Fund (CAMA).

According to the Minister for Defence and Veterans, Kassoum Coulibaly, this new legislation represents a pivotal decision that will enhance the capabilities of Burkina Faso’s military personnel.

The significance of the CAMA goes beyond providing health coverage exclusively for military members; it also extends to their families.

Under the new provisions detailed in the draft decree, the health coverage rate is divided between the workers and the State.

The introduction of command-sponsored health insurance is not just a way of strengthening the armed forces but also serves as a means of boosting the morale of the entire military force.
