Barcelona: Ilkay Gündogan on the move to another championship?

Barcelona, July 23, 2024 – FC Barcelona’s Ilkay Gündogan is contemplating a lucrative offer from Qatari club Al-Sadd, according to Catalan broadcaster TV3.

The former Manchester City captain, who joined Barcelona on a free transfer last season, is reportedly enticed by a three-year contract proposed by Al-Sadd, the club Xavi Hernandez managed before taking over at Barça in 2021.

Despite his influential role at Barcelona, Gündogan is unsettled by the club’s financial instability and is seeking a better deal than his current terms.

The German international, who has two years left on his contract with Barça, appears firm on his decision even with the recent appointment of his former national team coach Hansi Flick at the helm of the Blaugrana.

Barcelona is open to transfers to alleviate their financial woes and would not hinder Gündogan’s departure.

His potential exit adds to the transfer buzz surrounding the club, with names like Clément Lenglet, Eric Garcia, Inigo Martinez, and Vitor Roque also being mentioned in transfer discussions.

Gündogan’s leadership on and off the pitch has been significant, yet his future at the Camp Nou remains uncertain amidst these developments.
