Atchoum!!: I’m tired of this cold

Nerdy IT young man wearing a bow tie, blue sweater vest, and horn rimmed glasses makes a funny sad face, a kleenex tissue stuffed in his nostrils to stop his cold /allergies. Vertical on gray / blue background.

What is a cold? the common cold is an infection of the upper respiratory tract( nose, nasal passages and throat). There are more than 200 viruses that can cause the common cold.

Rhinoviruses, of which there are more than a hundred varieties form the main family of viruses causing the common cold in adults.

It is not uncommon to get a cold in winter and it manifests itself over several days which are

Day 1&2: sore throat and sneezing

Day3&4: intensification of sore throat, nose that begins to flow. Even if the symptoms are still limited, it is during the first four days that we are the most contagious.

Day 5…7: the cold is at its pick.

Why do we catch colds?

While the cold air may contribute to you feeling sicker (you feel colder), it’s the presence of the virus and germs that make you sick. Viruses replicate better and are more stable in low temperatures and in the dryness, which is why they flourish in wintertime.

How to heal it?

  1. Try OTC nasal steroids( Over-the-counter nasal steroids can help reduce mucus over time when used as directed).
  2. )Do a saline rinse( Using a tool like a nasal irrigator, can help to flush out mucus and irritants that might be bothering your nose).
  3. Drink plenty of water( Staying hydrated can keep your mucus thin, which makes it drain faster).
  4. Use a nasale spay( spraying saline mist into your nose can moisten it and clear out allergens).
  5. At night, use a humidifier( Using a humidifier while you sleep can reduce your congestion and keep you nasal passages moist).
