Africa: Ghana promotes the free movement of Africans for shared prosperity

Ghana intends to waive visa requirements for all African nationals entering the country by the end of 2024, as announced by President Nana Akufo-Addo during the opening of the 2024 Africa Prosperity Dialogue.

The annual event, jointly organized by the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) based in Ghana and the think tank African Prosperity, is taking place this year in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

The «Africa Prosperity Dialogue» serves as an annual platform where African leaders can engage, establish partnerships, and contribute to the realization of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

This visa exemption initiative by the Ghanaian government aligns with the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area, aiming to create a harmonized single market across the continent to boost economic growth, promote job creation, and eradicate poverty.

President Akufo-Addo emphasized this commitment, stating, «The government of Ghana is committed to allowing visa-free entry for all Africans visiting our country. Such policies are crucial continent-wide to ensure the free movement of people, goods, and services and leverage trade as a driver of economic transformation in Africa».
