AFCON 2023: Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra faces uncertainty with Hamstring injury ahead of tournament

With the AFCON 2023 drawing near, Ivory Coast faces a significant setback as Simon Adingra, a key player in the Elephants’ lineup, is uncertain about his participation due to a hamstring injury. This untimely news has disrupted the national team’s preparations, especially for coach Jean-Louis Gasset, who is finalizing his squad for the African Cup of Nations.

Brighton’s coach, Roberto De Zerbi, delivered disheartening news just a day before coach Jean-Louis Gasset was scheduled to reveal the final 27-player list for AFCON 2023.

The rising star, Simon Adingra, faces uncertainty in making his debut in the African Cup of Nations due to a hamstring injury.

Expressing uncertainty about Adingra’s participation, De Zerbi mentioned, «I don’t know if he will be able to play in the African Cup because of his injury. He needs four or five weeks. It’s a muscle injury, in the hamstrings».

The injury occurred during a recent Premier League match against Crystal Palace, posing a significant setback for Gasset, who considers Adingra crucial to his tactical system.

Adingra, a regular starter for the Elephants, showcased versatility with his first national team goal in a dominating 9-0 victory against Seychelles.

His outstanding performances with Brighton this season, following a successful loan in Belgium, have garnered attention.

This injury news compounds concerns over Sébastien Haller’s fitness, adding an element of anxiety to Ivory Coast’s AFCON 2023 preparations as Gasset prepares to announce the official squad on Thursday, December 28.
