Daré Nibombé appointed as New Head Coach of Togo’s National Football team

Daré Nibombé has been appointed as the new head coach of Togo’s national football team, the Eperviers. The Togo Football Federation (FTF) made the announcement during a press conference held on Monday in Lomé.

Less than a month after Paulo Duarte’s unexpected resignation, Togo has found his successor.

Nibombé, a former defender and captain of the national team who played in the 2006 World Cup in Germany, has been chosen to lead the Eperviers.

The FTF highlighted that after Duarte’s departure on June 21, a rigorous selection process among Togolese candidates led to Nibombé’s appointment on July 15.

While the details of Nibombé’s coaching staff have not been disclosed yet, the new team will have to quickly prepare for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, starting in September.

Togo’s first matches are against Liberia and Equatorial Guinea, the latter having reached the quarter-finals in the recent AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire.

Togo has missed the last three AFCON tournaments (2019, 2021, 2023), with their last appearance in 2017 in Gabon, where Emmanuel Adebayor, now retired, was the captain.
