Burkina Faso / Côte d’Ivoire: At the heart of the meeting between the defence Ministers of the two countries in Niangologo
A glimmer of hope shines at the border between Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire as the two countries recently held a high-level meeting in Niangologo. The Ivorian Minister of State, Minister of Defense, Téné Birahima Ouattara, met with his Burkinabe counterpart, Kassoum Coulibaly, to discuss the tensions that have marked their relations in recent months.
Following the meeting, the Ivorian Defense Minister expressed optimism about the future of relations between the two countries. He stated, « We leave Niangologo with hearts filled with joy. We have reviewed all the points of relations between the two countries, and I can assure you that this meeting in Niangologo will give a fresh start to relations between Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire. We can only rejoice for what has just happened today, and I will not say more ».
This meeting is of particular importance as it comes at a time when relations between the two countries were strained due to various misunderstandings. However, the expressed willingness by both Defense Ministers to strengthen bilateral cooperation demonstrates a common desire to overcome obstacles and promote stability and prosperity in the region.
