Sport: FC Barcelona sanctioned by UEFA for racist fan behaviour

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has fined FC Barcelona €25.000 for  the « racist behavior of its supporters ». This sanction follows an incident on April 10th in Paris, where two supporters of the Catalan club were arrested for making Nazi salutes during the Champions League quarter-final against PSG, according to French media.

In addition to the fine, the Parisian club has filed three complaints for these actions, as have the associations SOS Racisme and Sportitude, as reported by Franceinfo.

In addition to the fine, FC Barcelona has been banned from selling tickets for the travel of its supporters to its next match in a UEFA competition. This sanction is accompanied by a one-year probation period starting from the decision, the same media outlet stated.

The incident on April 10th sparked a strong reaction, with two Barcelona fans arrested and accused of « apology for war crimes and public insult of a racist nature» at Parc des Princes. The Paris police prefecture reported the presence of « FC Barcelona supporters making monkey noises and Nazi salutes » during the Champions League match between PSG and FC Barcelona.
