Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim Traoré’s vision of food self-sufficiency takes shape with achievements on the ground

Under President Ibrahim Traoré’s leadership, Burkina Faso is advancing decisively towards food self-sufficiency with the Agropastoral and Fisheries Offensive initiative.

This ambitious goal is becoming a reality through concrete achievements, notably in the rural commune of Bama, located in the Houet province within the Hauts-Bassins region.

In Bama, 714 hectares of irrigated land have been dedicated to rice cultivation across two areas: Séguéré and Niéguéma.

At Séguéré, 114 hectares out of 180 have been planted for the current wet season, with seedlings thriving across all plots, demonstrating the vigor and efficiency of local farmers.

This initiative involves 479 agricultural producers, including 105 women, highlighting significant social and economic inclusion.

Meanwhile, in Niéguéma, seeding is progressing well, with 40% completion on the 600 hectares of irrigated land.

Minister Ismaël Sombié has called on his technical teams to intensify efforts to ensure the success of this wet season campaign under the Agropastoral and Fisheries Offensive.

These efforts underscore the Burkinabe government’s commitment to achieving food security and enhancing the livelihoods of rural communities through more productive and resilient agricultural practices.
