Norah Jeruto cleared to compete in Paris Olympics after doping appeal rejected

Norah Jeruto, the world steeplechase champion in 2022, is on track to compete in the Paris Olympics after athletics’ governing body failed in its bid to ban her over a doping case.

Born in Kenya and representing Kazakhstan, Jeruto successfully defended herself last year against doping allegations, attributing unusual blood test results to stomach ulcers and a prior bout with Covid-19.

World Athletics appealed this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), seeking a four-year suspension for Jeruto. However, on Tuesday, CAS rejected the appeal.

Jeruto was temporarily suspended last year, missing the opportunity to defend her world title amid the ongoing case.

Notably, no banned substances were found in Jeruto’s system. The dispute centered on whether her blood samples from 2020 and 2021, showing unusual patterns, constituted sufficient evidence of a doping violation.
