Burkina Faso : ICT – The Burkinabe government and Huawei plan to train 5000 young people

Huawei Burkina is set to train 5000 young citizens in information and communication technologies (ICT). This project was initiated in collaboration with the Ministry responsible for digital transition. During an audience with President Ibrahim Traoré on Friday, March 22nd in Ouagadougou, the Director-General of Huawei Burkina provided an update on the initiative.

« We aim to train young Burkinabé in the field of ICT, including 5G, cloud computing, and AI », explained Christophe Liu after the audience.

« We came to greet the Head of State and update him on the various projects we are implementing », he added.

These projects, developed in collaboration with the department responsible for digital transition, aim to train at least five thousand youths in ICT over a period of five years. The training will focus on urban security, rural electrification, internet access, and the development of young talents in the field of ICT.

Another aspect of the project is to provide Burkina Faso with ICT infrastructure. According to Mr. Liu, plans include laying over 2,000km of fiber optic cable to cover the entire country.

« This fiber will provide connectivity between different areas of the country. At the same time, it will connect various sectors of the administration to improve communication efficiency between different departments », announced the Director-General of Huawei Burkina.

The idea of equipping young Burkinabé with a thorough understanding of ICT aligns with President Traoré’s goals, which aim to lay the groundwork for Burkina Faso’s development through the active participation of its citizens.

« Our objectives (…), also include envisioning endogenous development by relying solely on ourselves and trying to rethink deeply our agriculture, livestock, technology, and thus questioning the foundations of our aspirations for prosperity », stated Captain Ibrahim Traoré in his inaugural speech on October 21, 2022.
