FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s landmark visit to Zambia strengthens Football development ties

FIFA President Gianni Infantino made his inaugural visit to Zambia on Thursday, marking a significant step in bolstering the relationship between the global football governing body and the African nation.

During his visit, Infantino inaugurated the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Welcome Centre in Lusaka, a project funded by FIFA.

He also paid tribute to the victims of the 1993 Gabon Air Disaster.

Infantino’s agenda included a meeting with Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, where they discussed FIFA’s ongoing support for football development in Zambia, particularly in infrastructure and training.

President Hichilema emphasized the vital role of football as a promoter of health and economic opportunities.

A key highlight of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between FIFA and FAZ, paving the way for the establishment of a FIFA Technical Centre in Zambia.

This agreement aims to enhance the skills of coaches and administrators and improve the country’s football infrastructure.

Gianni Infantino also took part in the opening of a FIFA-funded Welcome Centre, designed to significantly reduce accommodation costs for junior and women’s teams, thereby enhancing their preparation for international tournaments.

Infantino’s visit underscores FIFA’s commitment to the development of football in Zambia, promising a bright future for the sport in the country.
