Burkina Faso: Shots fired at RTB, no loss of life

On the afternoon of Wednesday, June 12, 2024, gunfire erupted at the premises of “Radiodiffusion Télévision du Burkina (RTB)”, the  National Broadcaster of Burkina Faso.

The aftermath of this brazen attack was evident, with bullet holes riddling parked vehicles and windshields shattered in the courtyard.

Authorities reported two minor injuries; both victims received medical treatment and have since returned home.

The pressing question remains: Who are these attackers, and what are their motives?

Following the national discussions on the transition, which led to a justified five-year extension, it seems old adversaries with regressive intentions have resurfaced.

Currently, the identities of the assailants remain unknown, but investigations are undoubtedly underway to provide clarity in the coming days.

The possibility of destabilization attempts cannot be dismissed, considering the tactics employed by imperialists and their local collaborators.

In this context, the public is urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities by reporting any unusual or suspicious activities, especially those involving unfamiliar individuals.
