DRC: President Félix Tshisekedi invited by President Sassou Nguesso to strengthen cooperation in the Congo Basin

The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Félix Tshisekedi, recently hosted Arlette Soudan Nonault, the Minister of Environment, Sustainable Development, and the Congo Basin from the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville). Ms. Soudan Nonault was visiting as an envoy of President Denis Sassou Nguesso.

During their meeting, Ms. Soudan Nonault outlined the purpose of her visit to Kinshasa, stating, “We will soon inaugurate the headquarters of the Congo Basin Climate Commission and the Congo Basin Radio Television. President Sassou has invited his DRC counterpart to this inauguration.”

This announcement signifies a significant milestone in the cooperation between the two Congos, highlighting their joint efforts to protect the environment and promote sustainable development in the region.

The Congo Basin Climate Commission plays a crucial role in coordinating environmental and climate initiatives across the Congo Basin countries, home to one of the world’s largest tropical rainforests and a vital ecological lung for the planet.

The upcoming inauguration of the Commission’s headquarters and the Congo Basin Radio Television in Brazzaville symbolizes a strengthened commitment to environmental awareness and education.

The newly established radio and television station will serve as a platform to disseminate information, debates, and educational programs on environmental and sustainable development issues.

Félix Tshisekedi’s participation in this inauguration underscores the importance of regional collaboration in the sustainable management of natural resources and the fight against climate change.

It also reflects the positive diplomatic relations between the DRC and the Republic of Congo, and their determination to work together for the ecological well-being of the region.
