Tennis/Novak Djokovic withdraws from Roland Garros due to meniscus injury

Novak Djokovic has been forced to withdraw from Roland Garros just 24 hours before his quarter-final match due to a meniscus injury. This comes as a significant blow for the 37-year-old player, following Rafael Nadal’s earlier exit from the competition.

Djokovic was set to face Norway’s Casper Ruud in the quarter-finals but sustained a right knee injury during his five-set victory over Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo.

Despite taking anti-inflammatory medication, the pain persisted, and an MRI revealed a medial meniscus lesion.

In a press conference after his last match, Djokovic expressed his frustration, citing frequent slips on the court that were unusual for him.

He noted that his aggressive playing style, involving quick directional changes, may have contributed to the injury.

Djokovic mentioned that he had been experiencing pain on his right side for the past two weeks but had continued to compete in various tournaments, hoping to maintain his dominance in Paris.

However, this injury has now put an end to his run in the tournament.
