Togo: A new form of cooperation is born between Lomé and Freetown

The strengthening of cooperation and economic exchanges between Togo and Sierra Leone, initially discussed during a regional meeting in Lomé with Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio, is now progressing with the visit of Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, David Moinina Sengeh.

During a meeting with Togo’s Prime Minister Victoire Dogbé, the Sierra Leonean minister reiterated his government’s commitment to deepening and expanding the partnership with Togo.

Prime Minister Victoire Dogbé and her Sierra Leonean counterpart have agreed to broaden their commercial exchanges and foster investment flows that benefit both nations.

Their discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in financial inclusion, digitalization, and youth employment.

In Togo, these areas have gained significant momentum thanks to President Faure Gnassingbé’s policies.

Following the government’s roadmap, Togo has intensified efforts in financial inclusion through initiatives like the National Inclusive Finance Fund (FNFI), as directed by the president.

Youth employment has also been a top priority. In recent years, this sector has experienced a notable boost through the state’s entrepreneurship policy, which involves funding projects for young entrepreneurs and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Moreover, improvements in the business climate, driven by economic reforms, have encouraged self-employment among Togolese youth, effectively addressing youth unemployment challenges.

Overall, the Togolese government has made youth employment and financial inclusion its focal points for driving economic growth and ensuring sustainable development in the country.
