DRC : President Félix Tshisekedi authorizes a SADC mission to support FARDC against M23 rebels

Having promised security and liberation of the eastern region of Congo occupied by the M23 rebels supported by the Rwandan army, the supreme commander of the armed forces, Félix Tshisekedi, has gone on the offensive.

Under his command, the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) have been strengthening in recent weeks against the rebels, liberating some localities.

In parallel with the strengthening of the FARDC, President Félix Tshisekedi has authorized the deployment of a Southern African Development Community (SADC) force in the country to assist Congolese forces in combating armed groups. This SADC mission, composed of troops from Malawi, South Africa, and Tanzania, has an offensive mandate in its support for the regular army of Congo.

South Africa will provide 2.900 soldiers to support the FARDC in this intensifying combat between defense and security forces and the rebels. This deployment comes at a time when MONUSCO, the UN peacekeeping mission, is disengaging from the country at the request of the Tshisekedi government.

With this offensive mission of the SADC force, the president continues to advance the war machine launched against the rebels until the total liberation of Congo and the restoration of security and peace.
