Burkina Faso : Hubert Velud is no longer the coach of the Stallions
The Burkinabe Football Federation (FBF) decided on Friday not to renew the contract of national team coach Hubert Velud due to insufficient results. This information was revealed in a press release.
The statement specifies that after assessing the Stallions’ participation in the 2023 Ivory Coast AFCON, « the Executive Committee of the Burkinabè Football Federation (FBF) notes a performance below the expectations of the Burkinabe people and assures football enthusiasts of its willingness to continue striving for the national flag to be raised at the highest level in future events ».
« To achieve this, it is undeniable that the management of the Stallions observed during this AFCON does not align with the ambitions of the Executive Committee for Burkinabè Football » the information note further states.
« For this reason, the Executive Committee has decided not to renew the contract of the national team coach and the entire coaching staff ». Now that the chapter with Hubert Velud is closed after the FBF’s gratitude towards him, « the Committee is already focusing on immediate events such as the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the 2025 AFCON in Morocco ». To this end, it intends to swiftly assemble a competent and resilient technical staff with a clear mandate and imperative success objectives.
Furthermore, « the Executive Committee calls for the mobilization of all stakeholders around the Stallions to provide them with firm support and prayers so that they return with more enthusiasm for even greater victories ».
Additionally, the Executive Committee acknowledges and thanks the President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, and his government, partners, supporters, sports public, entire coaching staff, and Burkinabe diaspora for their diverse support.
