DRC: Towards the liberation of towns occupied by M23 rebels and the rwandan army by FARDC under the command of supreme commander Félix Tshisekedi

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Félix Tshisekedi, convened the High Defence Council for an overview of security issues and military operations primarily in North Kivu in the eastern part of the country.

This meeting follows the recent events in eastern Congo where M23 rebels, supported by Rwandan soldiers, have been killing civilians. With the High Defence Council, the president aims to review the national strategies implemented for the liberation of towns seized by the rebels.

As fighting intensifies between the DRC Armed Forces (FARDC) and M23 rebels, the president has convened the High Defence Council to step up efforts, increasing pressure on the rebels. It is reported that some towns occupied by the rebels have been retaken by the Congolese army, which is fighting fiercely.

Given the escalation of combat, security authorities seek to reassure regarding the defense of the city of Goma and the recapture of towns occupied by the Rwandan army. President Félix Tshisekedi assures that the war machine is in motion to drive out the Rwandan soldiers. Furthermore, the United States has demanded Rwanda to withdraw from Congolese territory.
