Burkina Faso: New air bases for the national army

In Burkina Faso, he President of the Republic, Captain Ibrahim Traoré signed on Monday, December 5, 2022 several decrees on the reorganization of the army. The information was made public on Wednesday, December 7.

As part of this reform, new air bases were established.

In Fada N’Gourma (East) and Kaya (Centre-North), regions severely affected by terrorism, the Burkinabe air force has set up its base.

These are the “Air Base 111 (BA 111)” of Fada N’Gourma and the “Air Base 134 (BA 134)” of Kaya.

The two bases will be responsible for “the operational preparation of personnel and equipment able to participate in the execution of the missions assigned to the air force,” said the presidential decrees.

With the creation of these air bases, the Army aims to increase its responsiveness to counter terrorist assaults in these two areas of Burkina Faso.

They will be commanded by air force officers, appointed by the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

The creation of these two bases brings to four the number of air bases, one in Ouagadougou and the other in Bobo-Dioulasso.

The Head of State and Chief of the Armed Forces signed two other decrees appointing officers.

The first appointed Colonel-Major Célestin Simporé as Commander of National Theatre Operations (COTN).

Until then, he was Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
