Burkina Faso : Agricultural Renaissance under the Leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré

A wind of change is sweeping through the fertile lands of Guénako and Yendéré, materializing the ambitious vision of the agricultural offensive initiated by President Ibrahim Traoré.

Under the leadership of the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Resources, and Fisheries, Ismaël Sombié, a crucial step was taken on Monday, January 29, 2024. This day marked a visit aimed at revitalizing these strategic sites, giving hope to the local population and symbolizing the rebirth of fruit and vegetable cultivation.

This initiative is in line with the government actions taken following the decision made during the cabinet meeting on December 29, 2023, demonstrating a firm commitment to sustainable agricultural development.

This meeting adopted a report on the valorization of the fruit and vegetable production sites of the former company Flex Faso. The sites of Kourinion-Guénako and Yendéré, each covering an area of 500 hectares, were returned to the local population to revive cultivation.

The goal of this initiative is to ensure the rapid reactivation of these strategic sites. Minister Ismaël Sombié, during his visit, emphasized that this action stems from the government’s instruction to ensure that the land made available is efficiently utilized within the best timeframe.

In Guénako, the minister decided to restore the original irrigation system for the previously cultivated areas. This approach aims to optimize agricultural yields and stimulate the creation of wealth and employment for local residents.

The reactions of the populations are filled with enthusiasm and gratitude towards the government for this lifesaving decision. The residents, aware of the challenges, have established entities dedicated to mango tree cultivation and cashew maintenance, with a common vision of sustainable development.

Minister Sombié’s visit attests to the realization of government commitments to agriculture and the creation of an environment conducive to rural development, thereby illustrating President Ibrahim Traoré’s bold vision for the agricultural offensive.
