PSG overcomes Real Sociedad’s challenge with 2-0 Victory in Champions League Clash

In the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) hosted Real Sociedad at Parc des Princes. Despite being touted as the favorite, PSG initially struggled against Real Sociedad’s high and effective pressing.

The first notable chance came for PSG as Kylian Mbappé was launched into space but was denied by Remiro (6′).

After this, Real Sociedad regained control, creating several threatening moments, with Kubo (10′), Silva (22′), and Mikel Merino (45′) all coming close to opening the score.

At halftime, the score remained 0-0, reflecting Real Sociedad’s dominance in the first 45 minutes.

However, PSG emerged more dynamic in the second half, and a series of corners led to Ousmane Dembélé finding Marquinhos, who headed the ball to Mbappé. The French striker, just onside, scored with a suspended kick (1-0, 58′).

Energized by the lead, PSG took control, and Mbappé nearly doubled the advantage with a powerful shot that hit the crossbar (64′).

Bradley Barcola eventually sealed the win for PSG with a goal from Fabian Ruiz’s assist (2-0, 70′). Real Sociedad struggled to pose a threat, registering zero shots on target.

Paris-Saint-Germain displayed seriousness and focus in the second half, securing a two-goal lead before the return leg at Anoeta in three weeks, putting them in a favorable position for qualification.
