Brazil’s Olympic hopes dashed: Seleção fails to qualify for Paris Games

In a surprising turn of events,  the national Olympic football team of Brazil faced a major setback as they fell short in the crucial qualifiers, missing the chance to participate in the upcoming Paris Games.

The decisive match against Argentina ended in a 0-1 defeat for the Seleção, leaving them in the third position in the South American qualifiers.

Argentina, led by Javier Mascherano, secured the coveted second spot in the final standings, earning a ticket to the Paris Games alongside Paraguay.

In a subsequent match, Paraguay sealed their qualification with a 2-0 victory over Venezuela, with Luciano Gondo scoring the decisive goal in the 78th minute.

Despite their strong performance in previous matches, Brazil couldn’t capitalize on opportunities against Argentina.

The Seleção had previously suffered a 0-1 defeat to Paraguay but managed a 2-1 victory against Venezuela.

This unexpected outcome is a notable contrast to Brazil’s past successes, having clinched gold in the last two editions of the Olympic Games.
