CAF boosts excitement: Significant prize increase for AFCON 2023 unveiled

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) made a major announcement, adding a new dimension to the anticipation surrounding the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 in Côte d’Ivoire, scheduled to kick off in nine days (January 13 to February 11).

This unexpected revelation unveils a substantial increase in financial rewards for teams participating in the competition, promising to heighten excitement surrounding the event.

According to the statement, the CAF has decided to increase the financial allocation for AFCON 2023 by 40%.

The winner of the 34th edition will receive an impressive prize of USD 7,000,000, while the runner-up will be awarded a sum of USD 4,000,000.

The semi-finalists will not be left behind, each receiving an amount of USD 2,500,000, and the teams reaching the quarter-finals will receive USD 1,300,000 each.

This bold decision by the CAF, as revealed by its president, Patrice Motsepe, aims to support the development of football in Africa while recognizing and rewarding the efforts of participating teams.
