Egypt: President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi on the campaign trail

The presidential election in Egypt has been moved from December 10 to December 12, 2023, and supporters of Abdel Fattah al-Sissi are already mobilized.

The incumbent camp must reassure the population in the face of the severe economic crisis that the country has been experiencing for the past few years, with inflation at 40%.

Regarding the economiaspect, Mahmoud Fawzi, the head of President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi’s campaign, stated, «We are primarily seeking to relocate industry, reduce imports, and increase exports. We will focus on all these points in the next stage».

Abdel Fattah al-Sissi is running for a third term, the last one allowed by the Constitution.

In 2014 and 2018, he won with 96% and 97% of the vote, respectively, against a virtually non-existent opposition.

To defend his record, he claims to have defeated terrorism and made the development of the country a priority.
