Africa: “Mali will recover its sovereignty over its entire territory”, reassures Colonel Assimi Goïta

Colonel Assimi Goïta, the President of Mali, announced during his speech to the Nation on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the country’s independence, that he had issued a decree on the reserve of the armed and security forces. According to Colonel Assimi Goïta, the new defence policy integrates citizens into a system that is better adapted to the conditions of a country facing multifaceted security threats.

«This is why the government has restored and improved national service for young people. It has also issued a decree on the armed and security forces reserve. Also, the new Constitution provides for the mobilisation alongside the armed and security forces of all citizens aged 18 and over for the defence of the homeland», he declared.

Colonel Assimi Goïta also reassured the audience that, with the new dynamic following the withdrawal of MINUSMA and the military operations underway, Mali will recover its sovereignty over its entire territory.

To this end, in application of Resolution 2690, the Government of the Republic of Mali will ensure the effective redeployment of the Defence and Security Forces and the return of basic social services throughout the country.

President Assimi Goïta also expressed his gratitude to Russia: «I would like, on this occasion, to salute Mali’s sincere partners, in particular the Russian Federation, whose efforts and support have been extremely useful in preserving our sovereignty in a national, regional and international context marked by multifaceted tensions».
