Burkina Faso: The harmonization of billing rates for free healthcare services is a commitment by President Ibrahim Traoré

Despite the efforts made by the government in the healthcare sector, reducing maternal and neonatal mortality remains a challenge. To address this, the President of the Burkinabe Revolution, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has pledged to significantly improve the healthcare system in Burkina Faso, with a priority focus on vulnerable groups.

New strong measures, including the harmonization of billing rates for free healthcare services, have been initiated.

In a cabinet meeting on August 17, 2023, the President of the Burkinabe Revolution decided to implement an operation to harmonize billing rates for free healthcare services at all levels of the healthcare system.

This initiative by President Ibrahim Traoré further strengthens the policy of free healthcare services for pregnant women and children under 5, which was launched in 2016.

This new measure has led to the establishment of a list of harmonized billing rates in Health and Social Promotion Centers, Medical Centers, Surgical Satellite Medical Centers, as well as Regional Hospital Centers, Regional University Hospital Centers, and University Hospital Centers.

According to the government roadmap, there are also plans to construct and equip healthcare centers across the entire territory, coupled with the rehabilitation of hospital centers and community centers, with a particular focus on enhancing the technical capabilities for providing care. All these measures will contribute to improve  considerably, the healthcare system in Burkina Faso.
