WAFU-B Cup 2023/ U20: Burkina Faso launched into the competition with a victory over to national female Team of Togo

The under-20 women’s national team of Burkina Faso defeated the Togo Women’s Sparrows in their first match of the inaugural edition of the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU-B) Women’s U20 Cup on Sunday, May 21. The final score was 2-0 in favor of Burkina Faso.

Led by coach Pascal Sawadogo, the Stallions’ women’s team made a successful debut in the WAFU-B Women’s U20 Cup by dominating their Togolese counterparts.

They took control of the game from the first half and maintained their momentum until the end. They made their breakthrough in the 29th minute, with a goal scored by Helbi, putting them ahead 1-0 before halftime.

The Togolese team made attempts to equalize, but the Burkinabe players did not make it easy for their opponents, who eventually conceded a second goal in the second half of the game, in the 83rd minute.

In Group B, the Burkinabe team will face the Niger team in their next match of the competition, scheduled for Wednesday. The Niger miserably lost against Nigeria with a score of 0- 7.

Group A consists of Ghana, Benin, and Côte d’Ivoire. The opening match between Ghana (the host country) and Benin took place last Saturday and ended in a victory for the Black Princesses with a score of 3-0.

This WAFU-B U20 Women’s Cup is in its first edition and is taking place in Ghana from May 20th to June 3rd, 2023.
