Foot/Serie A: Naples at the top of Italy with just 5 games left in the season

Naples became champions of Italy after their draw on Udinese’s pitch (1-1) on Thursday evening. The Neapolitans are crowned for the first time since 1990 and the era of Diego Maradona. The club’s last title dated back 33 years.

On Thursday, with five games left to play, Naples won their third Italian championship title, over 30 years after their first two titles during the era of Diego Maradona (1987, 1990), thanks to a point earned by Victor Osimhen in Udine (1-1).

The celebration, which was delayed on Sunday due to a late goal from Salernitana (1-1), started even before the final whistle blew at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, in the streets of the city center and in the stands of the Naples stadium now named after the Argentine idol, where more than 50,000 supporters had gathered to watch the match on a giant screen.

The celebrations for this well-deserved Scudetto, as Naples dominated the Serie A, are set to be explosive as the title returns to the South after being monopolized for 22 years by the three northern giants, Juventus Turin, AC Milan, and Inter Milan.

In Udine, thousands of Neapolitans also made the trip to witness this historic match, which put an end to 33 years of waiting.

Let’s recall that this championship title was clinched with just 5 games left in the season. Naples owes this feat to the performances of the Nigerian prodigy, Victor Osimhen. He was elected the top scorer of the Serie A with 22 goals.
