Burkina Faso: Government delegation visits internally displaced persons following Solenzo operations

On March 15, a high-level government delegation, including several ministers and the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, visited Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by recent events in Solenzo.

The visit followed a successful military operation on March 10, where Burkinabè forces routed terrorist groups operating in the Boucle du Mouhoun region.

During the operation, 305 individuals—primarily women, children, and the elderly—were discovered in a forest, where they had been held hostage and used as human shields by the terrorists. These individuals were living in dire and unsanitary conditions.

Acting on the orders of President Ibrahim Traoré, the hostages were immediately evacuated to a secure reception site.

There, they received medical care and food supplies to help them recover from their ordeal.

The government delegation included the Minister of Health, who was accompanied by a multidisciplinary team tasked with assessing and addressing the needs of the displaced.

Cases of malnutrition, malaria, and psychological trauma were identified and treated.

This operation underscores the scale of efforts by Burkinabe forces to liberate the country from terrorist groups.

The government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting civilians and restoring peace and security across the nation.

The visit also highlights the administration’s dedication to supporting victims of terrorism and ensuring their well-being during the ongoing fight against insurgency.
