Mali-Russia cooperation strengthens with high-level defense talks

The President of the Transition, General Assimi Goïta, welcomed a high-ranking Russian delegation led by Deputy Defense Minister Younous-Bek Evkourov yesterday at the Koulouba Palace.

This visit underscores the growing strategic partnership between Mali and Russia, particularly in the fields of defense and security.

While no specific details of the discussions were disclosed, the meeting highlights the increasing importance of military cooperation between the two nations.

Before meeting with President Goïta, the Russian delegation held a working session with Mali’s Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, General Sadio Camara.

This discussion likely focused on ongoing projects and future collaboration prospects.

The subsequent meeting with the Malian head of state provided an opportunity to address strategic matters and reinforce mutual commitments.

Amid significant security challenges in the Sahel, including the persistent terrorist threat and regional instability, Mali is actively seeking to diversify its strategic partnerships.

Strengthening ties with Russia is part of this broader effort to enhance national security and bolster the country’s ability to tackle these pressing threats.
