Football/ Guinea to appeal CAF’s decision After Controversial AFCON 2025 qualification Loss

The Guinea national football team has vowed to continue its pursuit of qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a controversial 0-1 defeat to Tanzania left them on the brink of elimination.

The Guinea Football Federation (Féguifoot) filed a protest with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the eligibility of Tanzanian player Muhamed Ibrahim Ame, who allegedly wore an unregistered shirt number during the match.

However, on December 26, CAF dismissed Guinea’s appeal, prompting the federation to announce plans for further action.

In a formal statement, Féguifoot requested a detailed explanation for CAF’s decision, asserting that the lack of transparency hinders their right to a fair appeal process.

They have formally expressed their intention to challenge the ruling and are seeking a suspension of the deadline to submit their appeal, pending receipt of the full justification for the decision.

This move underscores Guinea’s commitment to securing a place in next year’s tournament, despite the setback.

The federation insists that understanding the reasoning behind CAF’s rejection is critical to ensuring a fair and informed appeal.

As tensions rise, all eyes will remain on whether Guinea’s persistence can ultimately overturn the decision and keep their hopes of continental competition alive.
