2024 BET Hip Hop Awards: Kendrick Lamar dominates by winning 8 trophies

Kendrick Lamar emerged as the standout star of the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards, taking home an impressive eight trophies, including coveted titles like Song of the Year and Artist of the Year. The Not Like Us rapper, who had garnered eleven nominations, solidified his reign in the hip hop scene at this year’s event.

 

Hosted by Fat Joe for the third consecutive year, the Las Vegas ceremony, though held the previous week, was broadcast on Tuesday night.

 

The BET Hip Hop Awards, a spin-off from the main BET Awards, are known for honoring black artists and cultural figures who have significantly shaped entertainment, and this year was no exception.

 

Nicki Minaj claimed Hip Hop Album of the Year, while Sexyy Red was celebrated as the Breakthrough Hip Hop Artist. Missy Elliott, a longtime industry icon, was awarded Best Live Performer, recognizing her electrifying stage presence.

Travis Scott received the prestigious I Am Hip Hop award, acknowledging his decade-long contributions as a producer and artist. Scott used his acceptance speech to inspire young artists, emphasizing the power of creativity and determination over one’s origins.

 

“I’ve always had this vision to take sound to the next level,” Scott said. “Where you come from doesn’t matter; your mind can take you beyond.”

 

50 Cent was honored as Hustler of the Year, amid the announcement of his upcoming residency in Las Vegas.

 

The night also featured performances from notable names like Trina, Yung Miami, Juicy J, and 2 Chainz.
