Burkina Faso: Contribution of the Diaspora to the MPSR in the reconquest of the territory and the sovereignty of the country

The Burkinabe diaspora is emerging as a pivotal force in the national effort to reclaim territory and uphold the sovereignty of Burkina Faso, aligning closely with the goals set forth by President Ibrahim Traoré.

Despite being geographically dispersed, members of this community remain deeply committed to supporting the transitional government as it navigates pressing security and socio-economic challenges.

One of the diaspora’s most significant contributions lies in the provision of skills and expertise across strategic sectors, including defense, economic intelligence, and diplomacy.

Their knowledge is instrumental in shaping the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) and enhancing diplomatic relations with neighboring countries, thereby strengthening Burkina Faso’s geopolitical standing.

These expatriates are working to devise strategies that mobilize local and international resources to ensure the country’s territorial security.

In addition to this, the diaspora plays a crucial role in countering the disinformation campaigns directed against Burkina Faso.

With representatives situated in major international organizations, they are uniquely positioned to advocate for the country’s image and clarify the progress and reforms taking place.

To effectively fulfill this mission, they require access to empirical data and official reports from the government, which will equip them with the necessary information to counter biased narratives and highlight national achievements.

To this end, on October 13, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabe Abroad engaged with members of the Burkinabe community residing in Switzerland and the adjacent French region.

The current professional integration policies for Burkinabe citizens abroad, initiated by the transitional government, reflect a commitment to harness this synergy.

By incorporating the skills of the diaspora into both public and private sectors, the government aims to facilitate the country’s reconstruction and implement sustainable socio-economic projects.

The potential of the Burkinabe diaspora is immense, and its increasingly vital role in reclaiming territory and asserting national sovereignty only strengthens the efforts of the transitional government.

As the diaspora continues to engage actively in these national priorities, it reinforces the collective drive toward a more secure and prosperous Burkina Faso.
