Mali: Colonel Assimi Goïta brings military chiefs together for a strategic response

In response to the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 17, Colonel Assimi Goïta, Mali’s Commander-in-Chief, has taken decisive steps to bolster the nation’s security.

On September 23, 2024, he convened a high-level meeting with the Ministers of Defense and Security, along with senior military officials, to reassess the country’s defense strategy and address the pressing need for vigilance in the face of ongoing terrorist threats.

Colonel Goïta emphasized the necessity for an exceptional operational stance to ensure the safety of Malian citizens.

During the meeting, Defense Minister Colonel Sadio Camara outlined the key objective: conducting a thorough review of existing security measures and evaluating the current threat landscape.

This evaluation would allow for updated directives tailored to the evolving situation.

The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the military’s operational capabilities, while also urging the public to back their armed forces in the fight against terrorism.

Colonel Camara further conveyed his unwavering support for the troops on the frontlines, reassuring that efforts were underway to secure the release of hostages.

He made it clear that combating terrorism is a long-term challenge, one that requires close collaboration between authorities and citizens to achieve a lasting victory.

Under Colonel Goïta’s leadership, the government continues to adjust its strategies based on the realities on the ground, aiming to enhance civilian protection and gradually reduce the terrorist threat.
