2026 World Cup/ USA crush Paraguay 4-1 as Balogun scores twice in World Cup opener

The United States opened their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a resounding 4-1 victory over Paraguay at Los Angeles Stadium.

An early own goal from Damian Bobadilla put the Americans ahead after seven minutes. Folarin Balogun then took control.

The Monaco forward scored twice, first in the 31st minute after receiving a clever pass from Christian Pulisic, then again just before halftime.

Balogun resisted a defensive chase, outmaneuvered Gustavo Gomez inside the box, and fired a left-footed shot into the top corner.

Paraguay reduced the deficit in the 73rd minute. Julio Enciso delivered a perfect pass to Mauricio, who beat goalkeeper Matt Freese with a precise right-footed strike.

But the United States sealed the win deep in stoppage time. Giovanni Reyna exploited passive Paraguayan defending, advanced into the box, and curled a magnificent right-footed finish past Orlando Gill.

With two goals, Balogun becomes the provisional top scorer of the tournament. Team USA dominated possession, created multiple chances, and celebrated a flawless start on home soil.
