Burkina Faso: “Daandé Liptako” and “Tafouk TV”, new media outlets to strengthen the AES confederal space

In a drive to strengthen cooperation among member states of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES), two major confederal public media projects have reached a decisive milestone. Burkina Faso has initiated the ratification process for the agreements establishing the radio station “Daandé Liptako” and the television channel “Tafouk TV,” signed respectively on November 26, 2025, in Ouagadougou and on December 21, 2025, in Bamako.

“Daandé Liptako,” which means “The Voice of Liptako” in the Fulfulde language, embodies the three countries’ desire to make communication a strategic lever in support of confederal policies.

This public media outlet aims to enhance the dissemination of information regarding programs and actions undertaken by member states, while promoting credible and responsible information in a regional context marked by disinformation.

Ratifying this agreement will allow Burkina Faso to participate fully in the implementation of a project conceived as a tool for bringing together the populations of the AES area.

Meanwhile, the confederal television channel “Tafouk TV” . meaning “Sun” in the Tamashek language .  will contribute to promoting the cultures, languages, and shared values of the Sahelian peoples.

Beyond entertainment and news, it intends to foster dialogue among communities and social cohesion within the confederal space.

This strategic vehicle will also serve to raise public awareness on issues of common interest: peace, security, solidarity among peoples, and socio-economic development. In a Sahelian environment where security threats and information manipulation weaken states, the creation of these two confederal media outlets responds to a pressing need: to provide populations with reliable and legitimate sources of information, while consolidating the collective identity of the AES.

By ratifying these agreements, Burkina Faso reaffirms its commitment to placing communication at the heart of confederal construction. “Daandé Liptako” and “Tafouk TV” are not merely information channels; they become instruments of sovereignty, resilience, and unity for the peoples of the Sahel.

Their implementation, now imminent, marks a concrete step toward stronger, more visible regional integration.
