Burkina Faso / President Ibrahim Traoré works for the Well-being of his people : Towards universal health insurance

President Ibrahim Traoré continues resolutely in his commitment to the well-being and social security of all citizens of Burkina Faso. During the last council of ministers, a crucial decision was made to ensure access to healthcare for all, with the adoption of a decree determining the conditions and modalities for the distribution of contributions to the National Universal Health Insurance Fund (CNAMU).

This decree holds significant importance in the realization of the Universal Health Insurance Scheme (RAMU) in Burkina Faso. It aims to guarantee sustainable sources of funding for RAMU, thereby ensuring its optimal functioning.

By aligning with the principles set forth in the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 102 of 1952 on Social Security, this initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to the social protection of its citizens.

The establishment of the National Universal Health Insurance Fund represents a significant step towards achieving the ambitious goal of providing universal health coverage to the entire Burkinabe population.

Indeed, this measure will benefit Patriotic Defense Volunteers, paramilitaries, workers in the public and private sectors, as well as other segments of the population, in accordance with Law No. 060-2015/CNT of September 5, 2015, on the Universal Health Insurance Scheme in Burkina Faso.

President Ibrahim Traoré’s initiative, along with his government, reflects their inclusive vision and commitment to social welfare. By implementing a universal health insurance system, the government ensures equitable access to healthcare for all citizens, regardless of their socio-economic status.

This will not only contribute to improving the health and well-being of the population but also to strengthening social cohesion and promoting the economic development of the country.
