Mali : Opening of the 13th Agricultural Sector Review: Assessment, challenges and prospects

The national workshop for the 13th Joint Sectoral Review of the agricultural sector started yesterday at the Directorate of Finance and Equipment of the Ministry of Agriculture. This meeting, bringing together all stakeholders in the rural sector, provides a conducive framework for exchanges and strategic reflections on the current state of the rural development sector.

Its main objectives are to assess the state of the agricultural sector for the previous year, identify gaps and difficulties in its implementation, and formulate relevant proposals and recommendations to improve the sector’s performance in the coming years.

The Minister of Agriculture, Lassine Dembélé, presided over the opening of this workshop, accompanied by his counterpart from the Ministry of Environment, Sanitation, and Sustainable Development, Mamadouamaké.

The meeting also included the participation of officials from central and affiliated services of the rural development sector, as well as representatives from Technical and Financial Partners (TFPs). Over two days, participants will discuss ongoing reforms and current topics, including land policy, the implementation of the Agricultural Orientation Law (LOA), the implementation of the Agricultural Development Policy (PDA), and the progress of the National Investment Plan in the Agricultural Sector (PNISA) in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Economic Revitalization Framework for Sustainable Development (Credd).

Minister Lassine Dembélé highlighted the substantial efforts made since 1991 to modernize the agricultural sector and achieve development goals set by the government. Despite significant achievements in recent years, the minister also pointed out persistent challenges, such as the relative dependence of agriculture on climate-related hazards, difficulties in mobilizing financial resources, and the low level of agricultural product transformation.
