Hansi Flick prefers another Spanish champion over Nico Williams for FC Barcelona reinforcement

Amid the euphoria of Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph, Nico Williams has emerged as a key figure, attracting the attention of FC Barcelona.

At just 21, the Ghanaian-born player has dazzled with his speed and technical prowess, making him a hot commodity on the transfer market.

However, despite the high regard in which Williams is held, new Barca coach Hansi Flick is eyeing a different addition to the squad this summer.

According to reports from Sport, Hansi Flick is advocating for the signing of Dani Olmo, who also had an outstanding Euro 2024 with La Roja.

Olmo, noted for his offensive contributions and defensive diligence, including a crucial goal-line clearance in the final against England, is seen by Flick as a more team-oriented player than Nico

Williams.

This preference has sparked internal debates within FC Barcelona. Club president Joan Laporta is adamant about bringing Nico Williams on board, valuing his dynamic playing style and potential.

In contrast, Flick remains firm on his choice of Dani Olmo, seeing him as a better fit for the team’s collective strategy.

Financial considerations further complicate the situation. Dani Olmo’s release clause at RB Leipzig is set at €60 million, valid until July 20, after which his price will rise.

Barcelona is reluctant to meet this clause and hopes to negotiate a lower fee.

However, Leipzig is likely to reject any offer below the stipulated amount, especially given Olmo’s stellar Euro performance and his preference for a return to Barcelona, his formative club.

As negotiations continue, it is clear that Hansi Flick’s preference for Dani Olmo over Nico Williams could significantly shape Barcelona’s transfer strategy this summer.
