TOGO : 9 members of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) elected by the members of parliament in the Assembly
The Parliament proceeded on Friday to the renewal of members of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) of Togo. 9 members were elected, including 3 from the outgoing team.
This took place during the 3rd plenary session chaired by Yawa Djigbodi Tsegan, President of the National Assembly, during which the election of CNDH members was held in accordance with Article 7 of the new organic law of August 3, 2021, amending the organic law of June 20, 2018, regarding the composition, organization, and functioning of the CNDH.
The elected members, for a renewable term of 3 years, have expertise in various fields such as Law and Justice, Humanities, Health, Human Rights, and Environmental Protection.
Furthermore, in the new team, Afi Attitso, Tembe Ayissa-Assih, and Ohini Kwao Didi Sanvee, members of the outgoing bureau, were included.
Representing the government during the election, Pâcome Adjourouvi believes that these new members will play an important role during the Legislative and Regional elections scheduled for April 20th.
« The election today, which reconstitutes this institution of the democratic life of our country, is a good omen for the transparency and inclusivity of the upcoming legislative and regional elections », said the Minister in charge of human rights.
Furthermore, the government envoy specified that the renewal of CNDH members is an imperative that breathes new life and is a crucial act of consolidating the rule of law and democracy in Togo.
Before assuming their functions, the elected members will be confirmed by decree issued in the Council of Ministers, and then they will take an oath before the National Assembly’s bureau.
