Burkina Faso : President Ibrahim Traoré redefines governance for equitable distribution of the country’s resources
President Ibrahim Traoré has undertaken ambitious measures aimed at eradicating corruption and ensuring that the resources of Burkina Faso benefit all its citizens.
The recent report from the Supreme Control Authority for State Control and the Fight Against Corruption (ASCE-LC) highlights significant progress made under his presidency.
Before President Ibrahim Traoré came to power, corruption was rampant, and public funds were often diverted for the benefit of a small elite, leaving the majority of citizens in poverty and despair. However, the strategies implemented by President Ibrahim Traoré have radically changed the situation.
Firstly, a comprehensive reform of anti-corruption institutions was undertaken. Bodies such as the ASCE-LC were strengthened and provided with the necessary resources to investigate corruption cases at all levels of the public administration. This increase in transparency has deterred illicit activities and strengthened citizens’ trust in the government.
Additionally, President Ibrahim Traoré established mechanisms for increased monitoring and accountability for officials and public servants. Regular audits of public finances were instituted, and strict measures were taken against those found guilty of corruption. As a direct result of these efforts, the ASCE-LC report reveals a significant decrease in cases of embezzlement of public funds. Resources that were once captured by a corrupt elite are now reallocated to programs and projects benefiting the entire population. Public infrastructure, health, and education services have been improved, and social programs have been implemented to support the most vulnerable.
