Mali : The Transition President receives the report on the terms of reference of the Inter-Malian dialogue for peace and national reconciliation

On Monday, March 4th, 2024, at Koulouba, the Transition President, His Excellency Colonel Assimi Goïta, received the general report on the terms of reference of the Inter-Malian Dialogue for Peace and National Reconciliation.

Before the ceremony, the President of the Steering Committee of the Inter-Malian Dialogue for Peace and National Reconciliation, Mr. Ousmane Issoufi Maïga, provided an overview of the preliminary proceedings of the Dialogue, which is set to take place at all levels: communal, district, regional, Bamako district, as well as in consulates and embassies.

According to Mr. Ousmane Issoufi Maïga, the objective remained consistent throughout the discussions in both working groups and plenaries: to understand the deep-rooted causes of the conflicts that have afflicted Mali for over a decade and to find suitable solutions through frank and sincere dialogue among all citizens.

He emphasized the need to critically examine Malian values to draw upon necessary resources and establish solid foundations for peace and national reconciliation.

These terms of reference, essential for the commencement of decentralized dialogue, are the result of 20 days of intensive work in thematic commissions before their validation during an upcoming workshop.

The Steering Committee of the Inter-Malian Dialogue for Peace and National Reconciliation appreciated the support of the Malian Transitional authorities throughout these works, which led to these terms of reference as well as the internal regulations of the Committee.

The President of the transition in Mali, the Head of State, Assimi Goïta, has established a body for inter-Malian dialogue to achieve peace, after formalizing the end of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in Mali, stemming from the Algiers process, concluded in 2015 with the northern independentist armed groups under international and Algerian mediation.

The Malian people are therefore urged to work for the success of this dialogue, in order to restore peace through a patriotic resurgence. Mali needs all its sons and daughters to join hands to address the numerous challenges facing their country.
