Cameroun: Parliamentarians returned to the hemicycle this Friday

The 3th parliamentary session of the actual legislative year began on Friday 11 November. The deputies as well as the senators are back in the hemicycles of the Congress Palace. Many files are on the table of parliamentarians.

The November parliamentary session opens this Friday at the Senate and the National Assembly, under the chairmanship of the heads of the two chambers, respectively Marcel Niat Njifenji and Cavaye Yeguie Djibril.

In the words of parliamentary practices, this session is mainly devoted to the examination and adoption of the state budget for the 2023 fiscal year. This 30 days meeting will permit to the elected representatives of the people and local authorities to vote on the budget envelope in the finance law. The President of the National Assembly will transmit it to the President of the Republic Pau Biya who in turn will promulgate it.

In addition to this central exercise, the two Houses of Parliament are likely to address other issues of common interest. Through the mechanism of oral questions, members of these Houses will exchange with members of government as part of the control of government action.

The debates of the parliamentarians will focus for instance on the shortage of domestic gas, water and electricity problems, the fight against epidemics and pandemics in Cameroon, the participation of Cameroon in the World Cup in Qatar, the thorny issue of the acceleration of the process of transferring resources and competences to local authorities, etc.

The session will be marked by the opening speech of the Presidents of the Chambers Cavaye Yeguié Djibril and Marcel Niat Njifenji. The presentation of the government’s general policy for the next fiscal year will be another key point of the session. The Prime Minister, Head of Government Joseph Dion Ngute, will do this at the beginning of the session, which will end in early December. During the June session, the Parliament adopted nearly ten laws.
