Niger: President of CNSP Announces the Holding of an Inclusive National Forum

Niger celebrated on December 16th the 65th anniversary of its independence. A significant day that the worthy sons and daughters honored with fervor.

On this occasion, the President of the transition, Brigadier General Abdourahamane Tiani, addressed the nation. In his speech, the transitional president pointed out the causes compromising national sovereignty, including poor governance, corruption, impunity, and opportunism.

The Head of State announced the upcoming holding of an inclusive national forum to diagnose the country’s situation, attributed to the poor governance of past regimes. These discussions will propose necessary reforms for the future, along with a roadmap for the transition and a strategic action plan for the restructuring of the state.

The transitional president noted that the change initiated by the CNSP (National Committee for the Salvation of the People) has generated a new patriotic momentum, expressing the deep aspirations of the population for national sovereignty. This marks the definitive break with the old order and the beginning of the emergence of a new Niger. This break with the old order is also illustrated by the creation of the AES (Alliance of Sahel States), a new organization that will work in the interests of the Sahel and Africa.

Abdourahamane Tiani also took the opportunity to salute the resilience of the Nigerien people in the face of sanctions imposed by ECOWAS and UEMOA.

The president did not forget to make a special mention of the Republic of Togo, which spared no effort to support the country with commitment and constant availability, as well as the brotherly peoples accompanying the country in these difficult times.

Counting on the contribution of all, the transitional president assured that he would do everything possible to ensure the progress, security, development, and social cohesion of Niger.
