Burkina Faso/Nuclear energy: Memorandum of understanding signed as planned

As announced this week, Burkina Faso and the Federal Republic of Russia signed a memorandum of understanding on Friday 13 October, to create a nuclear energy station in the country of men of integrity.

A wish dear to the President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE. According to information reported by AIB, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Energy, Simon Pierre Boussim, and the Director General of the Russian National Atomic Energy Company Rosatom «Rosatom», Nikolay N. Spasskiy, signed a memorandum of understanding in Moscow on 13 October for cooperation in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

The signing took place on the fringes of Russian Energy Week, which began on Wednesday 11 October 2023.

As a result of this act, construction work on the nuclear power station can now begin, thus responding to the concern expressed by Captain Ibrahim TRAORE.

As a reminder, during the Russia-Africa summit, the Head of State and President of the Transition, Ibrahim Traoré, expressed to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin the importance he attached to having a nuclear power plant in Burkina Faso, if possible as soon as possible, to cover the energy needs of the sub-region.
