UEFA Champions league: Real Madrid win against Union Berlin thanks to Bellingham

Real Madrid kicked off the 2023-2024 Champions League season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at home against Union Berlin.

On the first matchday of the Champions League, Real Madrid faced Union Berlin in a group that also included Napoli and SC Braga.

Despite the absence of Vinicius Jr due to injury, Carlo Ancelotti fielded an attacking duo of Rodrygo and Joselu, with support from Jude Bellingham, the club’s top scorer in the league.

The game started with low intensity, but Real Madrid showed more offensive intent in the second half.

Rodrygo and Joselu hit the post on several occasions, but the German defense remained resilient.

Ultimately, Jude Bellingham scored in the dying minutes, giving Real Madrid a hard-fought 1-0 home victory.

It was Bellingham’s sixth goal of the season, allowing Casa Blanca to start the Champions League with three valuable points.
