Togo / Togo is resolutely committed to peace and cooperation in West Africa and the Sahel: President Faure Gnassingbé and UN Special Representative Simão join forces to tackle the region’s crucial challenges

During his first visit to Togo on Thursday, the Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel, Mr Simão, met President Faure Gnassingbé to discuss the pressing challenges facing the West African region and the Sahel. The meeting highlighted the Togolese President’s desire to promote active and cooperative diplomacy to tackle these issues.

President Faure Gnassingbé affirmed that peace and stability in the region are absolute priorities. He stressed that conflict resolution and crisis prevention are essential for the economic and social development of West Africa and the Sahel. Togo is determined to play an active role in the search for lasting solutions.

To achieve this objective, the President stressed the need to strengthen cooperation between the States of the sub-region. He expressed his willingness to work closely with the United Nations and other regional and international actors to promote peace, security and development.

President Faure Gnassingbé also stressed that the peaceful resolution of conflicts must be encouraged at all levels, and that the parties involved must engage in constructive talks to avoid escalating tensions.

The meeting between President Faure Gnassingbé and UN Special Representative Leonardo Santos Simão demonstrates Togo’s commitment to active and collaborative diplomacy to address the challenges of West Africa and the Sahel.
