Minister of commerce discusses trade development in Kordofan region with Governor’s office delegation

The Minister of Commerce, Professor Muhammad Ismail (Arkan), held discussions on trade affairs and export development with a delegation from the Office of the Governor of Kordofan Region, led by Engineer Muhammad Yahya Ahmed, Executive Director of the Governor’s Office.

The meeting addressed the general economic situation of Kordofan Region, with a particular focus on production issues, the development and enhancement of natural resources and regional products, and their preparation for export foremost among them gum arabic, other cash crops, as well as gold and various types of livestock.

The delegation from the Office of the Governor of Kordofan Region included Engineer Muhammad Yahya Ahmed, Executive Director of the Governor’s Office; Professor Abdullah Muhammad Al-Amin, Regional Humanitarian Access Officer; Professor Al-Mardi Jibril, Legal Advisor; and Professor Muhammad Sa’id Hamid Khalifa.

Engineer Muhammad Yahya, Executive Director of the Governor’s Office, stated that the meeting affirmed the need to secure the region’s products and resources, prepare them fully for export, and establish a specialized commodity exchange for the purchase and export of agricultural crops, livestock, and gold.

Muhammad Yahya added: “We emphasized the importance of activating and signing trade agreements with neighboring countries to facilitate export operations and safeguard the region’s economic rights.”

 He also revealed their intention to organize a specialized economic conference to address all economic affairs, with particular attention given to preserving products unique to Kordofan Region “foremost among them gum arabic, hibiscus, watermelon seeds, camels, and sheep” and to developing and improving their quality in order to enhance their competitiveness and enable them to access global markets.
